In the wake of the chimp attack last week, the House is acting very quickly.
Not good.

Re: New Law Banning Primates
Kris - it has nothing to do with Obama. It is a bill going through the House. It passed there - and now will be sent to the Senate. Then we'll see what Obama will do.
There is still time to CALL your SENATOR'S office. Remind these people that not ALL primates are 300 pound attacking chimps!

Re: New Law Banning Primates
The Humane Society of the United States, PETA and other national animal welfare/rights organizations are not friendly to exotic pets.
If you are concerned about the knee jerk all encompassing nature of this bill, (or endorse it) send a postcard to your senator, ASAP telling him/her not to vote (or to vote if you like it) for this bill. If you can reference the bill's number, even better. A phone call is almost as effective. A fax is good, too. Include your signature, printed name, address.
Don't bother w/an email.

Re: New Law Banning Primates
This law is very exaggerated within the primate community and it will NOT ban USDA to USDA or within state sales (I asked one of the drafters of this law myself), so most of you are safe. Nearly all states which permit the ownership of primates have ample supply of them for no only neonates but unrelated bloodlines to keepers, breeders, and enthusiasts as well with the only exception being *some* Lemur species (which are largely limited to my great state of Texas, Florida, and a couple of others and they would have CITES restrictions, anyways).
And Obama was a big mistake for a myriad of reasons... but I won't get into that. The SSA checked on his views about exotic/primate ownership long before the election and mostly voted against him (if such things were your primary concern).
