Going to be having my first trio - looking for advice

Post by mysteriousgirl1179 on Fri Dec 18, 2009 3:42 pm

Well it will be awhile yet but I am getting all the pre-advice on the topic that I can. I recently - about a month ago got a leu male - his name is Joe Dimaggio - he was born in August - and I just found him a set of twin 66% leu het female that were born in May - so I will have to do a quarantine for 30 days (obviously) and then introductions and soforth, but I have heard alot about baby stealing and jealousy between trios and whatnot so I am just wondering what I can do to prevent this kind of behavior. I was able to find a set of twins and I have heard that this greatly helps reduce problems between the females as they are related and used to being with each other and soforth. Just open and looking for any other advice that anyone can give. I do have another pair of breeding gliders - standard greys - just one female and one male - they are fantastic parents - have had 4 batches of babies and thus far no rejections or any problems whatsoever - so thus far I have been very fortunate. I always prepare myself for the worst though when I see the baby bumps - and have the joey rejection kit onhand and ready to go just in case.

Thanks so much
April

I will thank you so much - do you have any trios? how old were they when you did intros? Joe was born in August and I dont remember when the twin girls were born but I know they are older than Joe is - so they are already pretty old - Im hoping it wont be a factor - although my first set I put together it was a 5 year old male and a 2 year old female and they are just like peaches and cream together - get along perfectly great

Oh thats so cool - you must live somewhere nearby then too huh? I take it in the Minneapolis area? way cool - yeah Ive been trying to get ahold of her - but I think her email isnt getting to her - at least she said she has had some trouble getting it in the past - but I am hoping I can make contact with her and hopefully get the twins this weekend sometime

I am so excited - have the cage all set up and everything

so do you breed as well then?

Yeah, Brandi lives about an hour and a half away from me...maybe a bit less than that. I live about 20 minutes from Minneapolis, I am in the Twin Cities, she's a bit outside of them. No, I do not breed! Just couldn't do it. Don't have the heart or stomach for rejections or cannibalization or stress or giving up my babies...lol!

I know I am always prepared for joey rejections and cannabalizm and all that stuff, thus far I have been very fortunate - nothing yet and they have had 5 batches - crazy huh? I keep waiting for it to happen though - but if or I should say when it does I will just have to remind myself - its nature, and not blame the mom and dad and just try my best - if its a joey rejection - to get them through it - I have a kit all ready to go - I always get a bit nervous around the time the joey comes out of pouch though nervous energy and all that

and it is very hard to let them go too!!!

Well if you talk to brandi - tell her Ive been trying to contact her - lol I cant seem to reach her
