Mice, like rats, are intelligent small rodents that become quite tame. They are skittish, however, and won't bond in the same way that rats do. They have a lifespan of 1-3 years and can be kept in a relatively small cage (10 gallon aquariums make good mice cages if they have a lid). A substrate such as shavings, shredded paper, or other commercial bedding should be used. They are active, requiring a wheel, tunnels, and other toys. They are also social animals and though they can be kept as solitary pets, 2 mice are happier than 1 (keep in mind that males will tend fight with other males, so only females should be kept in pairs or in larger groups).Mice can also eat any commercial feed, and should be provided with things to chew on such as sticks and or paper-towel tubes.
